Second Wind - 16/11/02
The Burnside Files and the Frank Burnside Immortals fangroup are celebrating their second anniversary this month. As our treat to you we have updated the site with some Burnside tidbits that have been languishing in our inbox for months.
First up, you'll find a new quote (second from the end) on our Statements page.
This very long article (with some fabby new pics) appeared on the This Is Brighton & Hove website in May 2002 and this review of Burnside appeared somewhere way back in 1999.
While you're about it, visit our extensive collection of press articles on the Articles page.
Stay tuned for news of this year's International Burnside Day celebrations.
Snouting Around - 14/07/02
We've updated our Snouts page with the current addresses of some our favourite TB websites.
On a Cruisy Case - 07/07/02
Recently in The Sun newspaper (UK) Chris Ellison reported on his Royal Caribbean Cruise holiday. The 'sun-tanned dinosaur' shared deck chair space and lotion with his lovely wife Anita and their daughter Francesca. For the full story on their free-loading escapades visit our press articles page here.
Coming Soon: We add some groovy 'new' quotes to our list of fabulous Burnsidisms.
The entry from February 2002 (and possibly one other entry) disappeared in an Anna-shouldn't-update-in-the-middle-of-the-night mixup.

Read All About It - 29/12/01
So I've finally linked all the articles on the Press page. There's nothing that you haven't seen before, unfortunately, but they're there, y'know just in case anyone actually decides to visit this site or summat. Speaking of visitors - did anyone notice Santa? That's him up there, the big guy, red suit, reindeer, flying past your peepers in his sleigh. No? Note for December 2002: Scratch flying santa. To borrow from our Guv'nor, that idea has been voted down. [13/01/02 - Santa was removed]
And while I've got the interrogation thing happening, did anyone other than me celebrate IBD 2001? Have you got anything to say about it? Anything at all? Speak now or forever hold your peace. This interview is not being taped. No need to disturb your legal representative. No need to remain silent. Out with it NOW sonny-jim! Nothing to say? I thought not. Ho. Ho. Hum.
International Burnside Day 2001 - 16/12/01
Happy International Burnside Day to you all. Burnside fans the world over unite today in celebration of the greatest Guv'nor to ever be, the one, the only Frank Burnside.
Today is also Christopher Ellison's birthday (and why we chose the 16th December to be International Burnside Day) so please join us by
raising a glass of the finest single malt you can lay your hands on to wish him a very, very Happy Birthday and a fabulous year ahead. Cheers Chris.
This year we challenge you once again to paint your nick of the woods Burnside. Click here to read all about the challenge and download the flier.
And if you're unsure of what we're expecting of you or just feel like having a laugh, you can read all about last year's festivities here.
What's Cookin' Good Lookin'? - 11/12/01
TV Week is quick off the mark again, informing its readers about The Change two weeks before it is due to finish. Nice one.
In other exciting news, International Burnside Day 2001 is almost upon us. Get your bad tie dry-cleaned, bring that fine single malt up
from the cellar and practise delivering your most favourite Burnside quotes because this Sunday the 16th December we'll be daring you to spread good Burnside cheer.
Other stuff:
TBVU's Galleries have unfortunately closed but Mike has generously allowed us to pinch his screen caps. For your viewing pleasure we'll put them up here at The Files sometime over the next week [Christmas shopping timetable permitting *bleurgh*].
I'm on extended 'hols' at the moment so I have no excuse not to finally put up the rest of the unlinked article pages. Will do it, will do it. No champagne for me come New Years if I don't. [Can't let that happen!]
The dark and scary pic of Chris [left] is giving me the heeby-jeebies. It's gotta go! Do you have a fave pic you'd like to see on our home page for a bit? Or perhaps a pic of you (yes, YOU!) posed Burnside-y? Email us with your request if you do.
Over and out.
A Change is in the Air - 15/11/01
Airing tonight in the UK on BBC Radio 4, The Change, is a new comedy serial in which George decides it's time to introduce his wife to his alter-cross-dressing-ego Georgina. Yes, it's true, you're not seeing things. That's Chris in a dress at left.
Chris stars, as George, alongside two well-known actresses Lynda Bellingham (above right, Carol, George's wife) and Sylvia Syms (George's Mum) who recently appeared together in At Home With the Braithwaites. (Thanks go to Martin for the tip-off and the pic, which appeared in the TV Times)
You can listen to The Change on Thursdays at 6.30pm in the UK (5.30am Fridays in Australia via internet) for the next five weeks.
Happy Birthday! - 14/11/01
Don a bad tie, crack open your finest single malt (scotch or milkshake), prepare to regale us with tales of your head-down-bog-flushing escapades, and join the party - we at the Burnside Files and the Frank Burnside Immortals are celebrating
our 1st Birthday! Hoorah!
As a special treat, I thought I'd show you a pic of Chris you might not have seen before. [below left] Doesn't he look as though he's been out all night partying hard on our behalf? Good onya Chris!
We'd like to give a HUGE thank you to all our FBI Agents and special friends who've provided us with pictures, quotes, stories, videos, songs and more, and who've been incredibly supportive of our efforts over the course of the last year. We are most very grateful.
And, of course, muchos thanks to the divine Mr Christopher Ellison for his exceptional performance as Frank providing us with many hours of terrific television viewing. Gracias.
[Must brush up on my Cockney; Spanish doesn't quite suit Burnside. Although, perhaps the sun-tanned dinosaur is on the Costa del Sol right at this moment playing nine holes. Need a caddy, Frank?]
Double Take - 11/11/01
D'oh! It appears I had already remembered to put those pics [below] up on the Evidence page but had forgotten to upload it. Since I've already gone to the trouble of
sounding the fanfare about them here, I'll leave Chris and his lovely family to bask in the glory of a News page appearance. Hope you enjoy.
We Will Remember Them - 11/11/01
While doing a spot of remembering today, I remembered that I've forgotten to show you these two pics from long ago. Avon
sent them to me over a year ago and I filed them carefully away (read forgot about that particular email). Anyway, here they are:

Other things worth remembering: The Burnside Files and the FBI are almost 1 year old!
They Want You! - 28/10/01
The other week I had the pleasure of meeting a real police person and, surprisingly, it didn't involve being arrested. I gave a pair of non-plastic, non-furry, hard steel, very mean looking handcuffs the onceover, did my best not to spill my cuppa on the Senior Constable's hat, and was blasted by the blues and twos of her shiny new patrol car. Wheeee! It was so much fun!
What does this have to do with Burnside I hear you ask. Well, nothing actually. I just wanted an excuse to put up a scan of my cute new magnet [that's it at left] and tell you that I think...

[Count yourselves lucky - the video of me dancing around with a NSW Police balloon was deemed to be too silly for viewing by the general public. Bagged up as evidence against me was that little gem. ;)]
Coming Soon:
- some newly found pics of Chris Ellison
- Burnside Files turns 1!
- the missing articles
Winners are Grinners - 14/10/01
Y'know, I've never won anything in my life. (Okay, so by strange coincidence this morning I won a free 100g pack
of Smith's crisps/chips but we're not really counting that as a serious prize win.) Oh sure, I've benefitted from other people's lucky wins a-plenty.
A trip to Fiji here and a most-expenses-paid holiday to Hamilton Island there but never a (decent) prize winner before have I been.
This week, however, I have broken my unlucky non-winning streak -
I was one of the winners of the UKTV Burnside Trivia Quiz. And, to make things even better, I know of another very special
person who was also a prize winner in the same comp. We should be so lucky!
I won a copy of the "Burnside Files" video, a UKTV cap and a UKTV keyring. I'm very excited. Y'see, despite this very site being named The Burnside Files and Burnside being one of my favourite TB characters, I've never
watched the video before. Seriously deprived, eh? So first thing Monday morning I'll be collecting my prize and come Monday afternoon I'll be plonked on the couch in front of the telly with a cuppa and a packet of original Tim Tams gawping at the great man himself with a huge grin on my face. I may even wear the cap. ;)
The Burnside Years - 28/09/01
Desperate to see more of Burnside? Watch UKTV in Australia this weekend and get your fix. The three night retrospective of some of Frank's best episodes begins 9.30pm this Saturday 29/09 and continues 8.30pm Sunday 30/09 and Monday 01/10.
For your chance to win a copy of The Burnside Files video, check out the competition at www.uktv.com.au.
[Pssst. If you know the answer to Question 1, drop me a line at burnsidefiles@bigpond.com. We might even be able to scrounge up a leftover Burnside magnet for your trouble. If you've emailed us wanting to know the answer, Avon's on the case and as soon as she tells me the answer I'll post it here dash over there and put my winning entry in. ;) Cheers m'dears.]
[I know the answer to Question 1! Thanks Avon!!!]
Yoohoo, We're New - 25/08/01
It's been a while coming but at last we can unveil the new
look Burnside Files. Our mission for the redesign was to make it easier
to find your way around, find homes for all the bits and pieces we've collected
since November last year, and to make it all look a bit snazzier. If you
come across anything *wobbly* (technical term for 'not working properly') on your travels around the site, please
let us know.
Lock, Stock @ 20/08/01
So we've packed up the Special Edition Burnside
Files lock, stock and moved back into our old home while we redesign
the site.
Below you'll find links to all the bits and pieces that don't have permanent
homes as yet.
The Burnside competition was a great success. Sierraoscar
won the Week 6 comp by correctly answering the question 'How did Burnside
destroy the one hundred million pounds hidden in the swimming pool?'. Yep,
he set fire to it (and astonishingly, the whole lot went up in flames until
nothing more than small pile of ash was left. Really!) and, no, I didn't
do the draw. ;)
Things to come? Apart from the new site design, we've got a few more
articles to show you, a couple of new pictures of Chris at work and play,
and one or two prospective FBI members buzzing about - all 'coming soon'.
On the agenda for the months ahead is this year's International Burnside
Day preparations. Stay tuned.

All Over @ 30/07/01
Well Burnside has finished it's run in Australia, Avon has written her last review and I've finally uploaded it. (see above)
About the only positive thing I can say about the series is that I liked the title music and the 'look'. The writing, especially for Frank's larger than life character, was appalling. Burnside's image has been badly tarnished by this latest outing and it's no wonder Chris has said he wants to leave Frank behind and move on to new challenges.
I did enjoy Zoe Eeles' performance (disregarding the capers of her character, Sam) and loved seeing Charles Dale (Billy Holden, gun dealer in Episodes 1 & 2, previously seen in Jimmy McGovern's The Lakes) as a baddy again as he does 'vicious and nasty' so well.
So where does The Burnside Files go from here now that Frank has seemingly made his last (new) appearance in our living rooms? Well, our biggest wish is that Foxtel/UKTV or better yet, the ABC, will screen 1988 to 1993 episodes of The Bill so we can get our fix of the legendary Burnside. *Those* were the good ol' days. We'll continue to bring you news of Chris' activities, our in-tray is overflowing with more articles about Burnside, and we'll soon be making preparations for this year's International Burnside Day. Look out for a site redesign too.
Thanks to everyone who has visited over the last six weeks and special thanks to those who participated in our weekly competitions. Week 6 is running now so get your entries in for your chance to win a little momento of Burnside to remember him by or...'You're Nicked, You Slag!'
Tardy @ 30/07/01
Our lucky Week 5 Competition winner was Agent 7, the delightful Miss Kacey. Congratulations Kace! And just how was Burnside's snout Tony Shotton killed? Unfortunately for Mr Shotton, he was shot with a shotgun.
For one more chance to win a special Burnside magnet see our Week 6 competition question above and get your entries in before 9am this Friday AEST time (midnight Thursday for UKers).
Cop This! @ 19/07/01
The Burnside Files got a mention in the current issue of TV Week! [Excited screaming will commence now!!]
Persistence Pays @ 19/07/01
Sierraoscar has entered our Burnside Competition every week since it began and finally his persistence has paid off. SO answered the question 'What does Superintendent Lee think Burnside should be doing with his time?' correctly with 'playing golf' and so he is the winner of our Week 4 Competition and will shortly receive an exclusive Burnside magnet by special delivery. Yay! (Contrary to popular belief I did NOT peek at whose name I was drawing out and I have witnesses to prove it! *mew mew*, says Oscar the Kitten in agreement.) Fear not kiddies, Avon will return to being in charge of choosing the winners from next week, I promise.
PS. There's quite a few "new" articles on the Special Edition Burnside Press page for you to have a gander at. Go, go, go.
Lucky Friday @ 13/07/01
We are very pleased to announce Karen as the winner of our Burnside Week 3 Competition and she will shortly be in receipt of an exclusive Burnside magnet. The answer to this week's question "What colour was DC Sam Philips' g-string?" was, of course, 'purple'. We'll do our best to ensure that the Week 4 question has no connection to underwear. Only three more chances to win so make sure you come back to visit us soon.
Winner No. 2 05/07/01
The lucky winner of our Burnside Week 2 Competition is Stanton's Man who answered the question "On what page does Burnside rate a mention in Ronnie Buchan's book 'A Cut-throat Business'?" correctly with 'page 109'. Congratulations SM! More chances to win when the Week 3 question arrives right here this Friday night after Burnside.
Hitting the Right Note @ 01/07/01
Sierraoscar has a sample of the Burnside theme music available for you to download from his wonderful site The Billboard. Oh baby, it sounds fantastic!

We have a Winner @ 28/06/01
Our Burnside Week 1 Competition has closed and we are very excited to announce our first lucky winner as Stephanie! Yay! The correct answer to the question "What do cops say NCS stands for?" was 'No Crimes Solved'. Stay tuned for comp question 2 coming to the Files after Friday night's episode of Burnside.
Can't Wait @ 22/06/01
Burnside begins tonight on the ABC at 8.30pm. Are we excited little FBI Agents? Yes indeedy we are! Champagne (and vodka for web fairies who've just lost entire pages in the upload process) and video tapes are at the ready. Phone is off the hook. 'Do not Disturb' sign is on the front door. *Ahhhhh* Burnside bliss.

The Race is On @ 18/06/01

This article appeared in the Guide section of today's Sydney Morning Herald.
18 Carat @ 06/06/01
Here's the promo for Burnside coming soon to ABC TV in Oz. You'll need Windows Media Player or similar to view it. Know what I mean? ;)
And a wee piccie to keep you satisfied just in case things go pear-shaped. (Rest of 'em coming soon to the Evidence page.)
Man on a Mission @ 27/05/01
Okay, so he didn't get the press coverage that the Lone Star boys rated but Chris' recent visit
to Australia did manage a mention in a few of our most *ahem* 'distinguished' publications.
Two new articles are now showing on the Evidence page.
Goodies @ 22/05/01
So much new stuff I just don't know where to begin. Perhaps
here is a good start. Yes, that's right folks, Laurab,
Agent 14, has opened her dossier at The Nick for all to see.
Now to let you in on some very exciting work sent to us by visitors to The Files.
Jason has very cleverly produced a 'song' of famous Burnside quotes. 'Tis really amazing and a must hear for those of you who can never get
enough of Frank's dulcet tones. Download here.
Jade has drawn a rather splendid picture of Burnside which she was lucky enough to have signed by Chris when he
was in Perth. See the marvellousness here.
And there's even more new stuff to come!
Hot Potato @ 10/05/01
Me in rush to get to work. Will be late (again) if I stop to natter, so...
The rest of the pictures from Chris' appearance on Backberner are now on the Evidence page. Yay!
A big welcome to our newest Agent, Laurab, whose details will shortly be up at The Nick.
Much more to come soon.
Pictorial Splendour @ 05/05/01
And what a lovely surprise it was too!
Chris was ever so nice and allowed me to take lots of pics of him hard at work signing autographs at the second Sydney
book signing at Westfield Chatswood.
Here is the evidence.
(The images are large-ish and may take a while to load but we promise they're well worth the wait. FYI for the technically challenged: the window scrolls horizontally.)

Lickety-Split, Gotta Be Quick @ 01/05/01
Jennywren was very quick off the mark and sent in vidcaps of Chris' appearance on
Backberner (ABC) last night. Here's a little taste of the goodness to keep you satisfied until I can put the whole lot up. Don't he look good in that suit? Please don't get me started on the handcuffs. ;)
Chris Rules! @ 28/04/01
Today's excursion to Chatswood,
Sydney to see Chris was totally awesome. Chris was delightful, the company was luffly, and it appears
my camera worked.
As to be expected, I blushed a lot and got the shakes (thank goodness someone else took some photos; mine will all be blurry or summat no doubt).
Chris signed all the things I asked him to (what a nice guy!) and even remembered me from the other night at the Logies.
Speaking of the Logies, the pictures from the Logies telecast have finally been uploaded to the Evidence page. Many thanks with delicious chocolate on
top must go to Jennywren. Go visit her sites and tell her what a superstar she is.
Flying High @ 28/04/01
Here is the flier I promised you two weeks ago.
Print it off (comes out okay in B&W) and pass it around.
Off to see Chris at the Chatswood book signing today. Will the camera work? We hope so!
Promise, promise, promise to put the Logies vid caps up on the site this afternoon. *Thwack* me if I don't.
Still Shaking @ 25/04/01
Over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of April I travelled
from Sydney to Melbourne on a mission to meet Chris Ellison at the Logies. The outcome?
Mission accomplished, folks!
The operation was not a complete success, however, when you take into consideration the horribly embarrassing
incident with my camera.
There I am, at sometime after 1.00am on Monday morning, in the foyer of the Crown Casino, after spending close
to 9 hours on my feet waiting for more than a glimpse of the back of his head, when the target and his entourage
delicately start to make their way down the grand staircase.
Having decided five minutes beforehand to pack it in and trot off to bed,
I go into a complete panic and in the rush to get my camera out of its case, knocked one of the dials causing the camera not to work.
Of course, this didn't come to my attention until after Chris and I had posed for what seemed like an eternity with one of his attendants madly trying
to take a pic before Chris was whisked away for some shut-eye, and after I had further embarrassed myself. Oh yes, it only gets worse.
So I apologise profusely for holding them up, Chris and the lovely ladies with him leave the building, I sink to the floor
to have a sob and there I spy the wrongly twisted dial. I think I was having some sort of 'Patsy' (from AbFab) moment right then
because if you'd been there, under the portico of the Crown Casino, you would've seen a mad, dishevelled-haired, mascara-stained woman flapping her arms about and chasing after Chris,
shouting "it works now, hey, it works!! PLEASE DON'T GO!!!!" just as Chris slid into the waiting limousine.
Do you reckon he noticed?
Coming soon: The highs and lows of Anna's trip to Melbourne.
Coming later today: Vidcaps of Chris at the Logies, provided by the luffly Jennywren.
If you just can't wait until after I've had my brekkie, SO has a few choice caps at The Billboard.

Folks, meet
Matthew, he's six and unlucky for him I spied him riding this toy police
trike (a la Chris in his Toys 'R' Us advertisement - see Evidence)
near my house on International Burnside Day. (Yep, late again!)
A-ha, said
I, this presents a perfect opportunity to introduce a young one to that
legend of the small screen, DCI Burnside. So I dragged out the International
Burnside Day flier and got him to pose for this pic. Matthew took
two things away from our meeting - a concise history of Frank Burnside's
best arrests and a handful of my money. ;)
