IBD 2000 Report by Kacey, December 2000

When I received the FBI challenge I was eager to take part despite the challenges of my location. I began International Burnside Day at midnight so I saw in the day with a drink of virtual single malt scotch in the Canley Arms. I then got down to work with a post at TBVU forum in which I managed to include the text of the poster. I couldn’t do the picture so I got to the Frank Burnside gallery quick smart and posted two of my favourite Burnside pictures. Back at TB.com, I continued the celebrations. I 'Happy International Burnside Day'-ed everyone I saw on ICQ. I emailed Chris Ellison through TB.com wishing him a Happy Birthday. I visited the Burnside Files and the Burnside website for good measure. I emailed a number of radio stations on the off chance they might actually check their email in time and decide to mention our celebrations. Unfortunately the only reply I got was a few days late from Martin Corben from ABC Radio who was apologetic about not having gotten to the email in time for our special day but wished us the best for it. I replied saying that I'd be sure to remind him about it next year a bit earlier. When at last I stumbled into bed for some shut eye before the day time celebrations I was making my plans for the next day.

Out of bed on International Burnside Day I ventured into Dad's cupboard in search of a horrific tie. The problem is that Dad's horrific ties feature pink and yellow types that don't look very Burnside-ish (I went through the Burnside gallery looking for pictures with him wearing a tie) so decided on a huge brown striped one that looked ridiculous on me but by the end of the say I enjoyed it. I next confronted the distinct lack of poster and flyer handing out opportunities. I considered covering the trees alongside the road with Burnside posters but despite an anxious wait for the sometime weekend QLD tourists on the way to the 4WD getaway I was disappointed as I was a week or two early. In search of an audience after explaining the whole International Burnside Day concept to Mum, Dad, and our pets, I headed up to Grandma and Grandpa’s house (a 30 metre trek) and extolled the virtues of Burnside, the FBI and International Burnside Day. Next I got out my 'Hot Money' video tape and set about memorising it. I re-watched some of my favourite bits and transcribed them. The evening took me back to forum to rejoin the online celebrations and read some of the reports of fellow Burnside fans.
