Discussion - Burnside is a Very Moral Character
Even though Frank Burnside may cut corners, you have to admit that he
gets results. The problem with police officers who strictly follow
the book is that they frequently find themselves in a dead end knowing
that the person who should be behind bars is just on the other side of
the wall. Frank uses his knowledge and experience to ensure that
he almost always gets the right man. If he doesn't he backs down
and instead of making excuses he gets on with it.
Unlike John Boulton and Debbie McAllister, Frank is tough but he's sympathetic
when appropriate, and he's subtle. He knows when to act like a bull
in a china shop and when not to, and it's this ability to decide what things
are right, wrong and just not appropriate that makes him a good role model.
Burnside may make certain controversial decisions, but in his case the
ends often justify the means. You don't have to be squeaky clean
to be moral, which Burnside proves.
